THE GAZELLE
During my tenure as Staff Illustrator at The Gazelle, NYU Abu Dhabi's premier student-run publication, I created visual narratives that complemented journalistic content across various social and campus issues. My work balanced digital illustration techniques with conceptual storytelling to engage the diverse NYUAD community.
Below is a selection:
1) "An Open Letter to NYUAD Administrators: Student Journalism Needs Institutional Support"
Digital illustration with halftone effect and purple gradient
Vintage-inspired newsboy character shouting "EXTRA! EXTRA!" while holding The Gazelle newspaper. The retro comic style intentionally contrasts with the modern call for institutional support, emphasizing journalism's enduring importance on campus.

2) "Mme. Pécresse, not all women in France want to be Marianne"
Digital illustration with textured halftone pattern and tricolor motifMinimalist representation of a figure in hijab against a backdrop of blue, white, and red—colors of the French flag. The abstract, radiating white shapes create tension between traditional French symbolism and Muslim identity. The deliberate facelessness of the figure speaks to the dehumanization addressed in the article about Islamophobia in French politics.

3) "Taylor and Back Again"
Digital photo collage with retro pop aestheticVinyl record player displaying "RED" album amid scattered iconic records against a playful polka dot background. Composition juxtaposes vintage music technology with modern pop culture, reflecting the article's themes of music authenticity and overcoming judgment about personal taste.

4) "Wellness Department Announces That Only Those Experiencing Imposter Syndrome Actually Belong at NYUAD"
Animated GIF with gaming parody elementsCreated a cycling GIF where the Among Us character on the NYU ID transforms into the word "IMPOSTER" followed by an emergency meeting alert, all set against the NYUAD campus map. The animation playfully mirrors the article's satirical message about student insecurities while using familiar gaming visual language.
